I can feel the cold breeze against my skin,
The trees around me call for a warm blanket,
Their naked bodies exposed for everyone to see,
The only warmth is the tears on my cheeks,
Soon they’ll become ice,
And only the trees will know my sadness,
Your familiar voice calls for me,
It calls me back to you,
But I’ve already made it this far,
To turn back now would be foolish,
My legs shake with all of these worries,
If only I wasn’t so troubled,
My breath is like a cloud,
It holds all the words I should have said,
But here I am, walking away,
I hope that you won’t wait for me,
The path I have taken only goes one way,
And I must travel it alone,
So with sword in hand,
I’ll charge forward with such urgency,
And fight these fears that plague me,
I’m sure it will be a fierce battle,
But I’ll come out stronger,
With only the wind at my back,
I hope that the next time you see me,
I’ll have a smile on my face,
For I have won the battle,
So with sword in hand,
I’ll charge forward with such urgency,
And fight these fears that plague me.

Retrospection
We beg for mercy,
to be pardoned
of a sin not of
our own volition;
to escape what
haunts the mind
through dreams
and distorted images.
There is an escape,
but it seems far-fetched,
and it only leads
to further damnation.
Breaking the silence
with a subtle scream;
still the heart is
shattered with memories.

Discern
I can take
a hint without
taking offense,
without affecting
my sense of self,
but it's so hard
to tell who is real.

a week and a day
I couldn't stop thinking about
the one time my friend said
in the light
my eyes look like honey.
I kept ending up in the
sun
for some reason. What did you think?
Honey?
And the dragonflies that kept
being near me. The first one landed
right next to me on the rock and
another one was
so close to my hand but
I scared it away.
I helped you build your bridge.
I didn't touch your hand today.
It's not that I didn't want to, but
I don't need help.
I'm strong and if I can walk
I'm going to walk.
In retrospect, that's ok. It's
probably better that way. Awkwardness.

dips in conversation that
